Abstract

Canine parvoviral enteritis remains one of the commonest infectious causes of severe illness in young dogs, and intussusception is among the gastrointestinal complications that clinicians worry about when a puppy with the disease keeps vomiting or seems to be in pain. This article is a narrative review of published literature. No individual patient is presented, and although the title uses the words case report, the content does not describe a single case. The review sets out what is known about the virus and its variants, the way infection damages the intestine, the interplay between maternal antibody and vaccination that leaves some puppies exposed at about six months of age, and the diagnostic and supportive principles that guide care. It then asks what the literature really says about intussusception in this setting. The evidence is mostly case series and imaging reports, the complication is uncommon or at least inconsistently reported, and the reasons for its occurrence are better described than proved. Table-based summaries of recognition, diagnostic tools and evidence types accompany the text. The review concludes that intussusception should be actively looked for, not assumed, in parvoviral enteritis that fails to behave as expected, and it lists what better reporting would contain. No dosing advice is given.
